| | Wash Away - TSOL | ] | TSOL was excellent! Slammed down a Guinness on an empty stomach as the show started (was running late as usual), and there was fionathecelt, who I wasn't sure would make it.
The opening band, Pseudo Heroes, were great, best local opener for a national tour I've seen in years. Didn't hurt that they had two guest vocalists, one from the Pink Lincolns and one from Dag Nasty!
Wasn't as found of The A.K.A.s - here's their LiveJournal _theakas - they were good, sorta International Noise Conspiracy/The Hives, but not so sure about their music yet.
Then came TSOL - they were fantastic!
The show also provided me with one of the most surreal moments of my life -
In 1983, a movie called Suburbia by director Penelope Spheeris (Decline of Western Civilization, Wayne's World documented the then fairly-new punk rock scene of California (with appearances by, among others, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea and the founder of Lip Service, whose name I can't recall).
There were two songs performed by TSOL in the film, on a "club" sound stage, with a circle pit and punks everywhere.
It's one thing to experience something similar to a scene in a movie, but Saturday night was the scene from the movie. It was bizarre, like actually stepping into the film at that point.
After that, fionathecelt and I headed to Village Inn for the obligatory, after-concert breakfast. It was good, a chance to really talk and get to know each other better.
Then, lo and behold, who wanders in after a couple of hours but geodiaz, djpsychobilly, fearangel, Ray, and Amy, just arriving from Buddha's strip club. We joined them until fiona had to split, and headed home for the night.
All in all, an excellent evening! |
